Can You Rent Helmets at Ski Resorts

Yes, nearly every resort will have a ski shop where you can rent helmets. This is a good option for anyone who doesn’t own one or wants to bring it along on a ski trip.

I’ve been skiing for most of my life, and I’ve rented all types of gear and equipment over the years. I’ve been to many different resorts and have rented equipment at a lot of them, so I know what’s available and what isn’t.

This post will tell you that you can indeed rent helmets at ski resorts. I’ll also explain why you might want to do this and why you might want to get your own.

Let’s get to it.

Renting Ski Helmets

You can rent helmets at most ski resorts. There might be a small resort that doesn’t have them, but every resort I have ever visited provides rental helmet options.

If the resort you are visiting doesn’t have rental helmets, you’ll most likely be able to find one in the ski town nearest to the resort. So if you are in a pinch, you can usually find a helmet if you don’t have one of your own.

Wearing a helmet is a must for every skier. It’s an essential safety item that can very literally save your life. You always need to wear a helmet, and if you don’t own one, renting can come in very helpful.

Why Rent a Helmet

Renting a ski helmet can be a good option for several reasons. First off, if you don’t have a helmet and don’t want to buy your own, renting is the best option to stay safe on the mountain.

If you aren’t a frequent skier, buying your own ski helmet might not make sense. Renting will be more affordable if you only ski for a day or two.

Renting a helmet is also a good option for anyone going on a ski trip who doesn’t want to bring equipment along. Rentals can be more convenient because you don’t have to lug everything on a plane or in the car.

Why You Might Not Want to Rent a Helmet

If you are a regular skier, you should really own a helmet. Not only will you get something that fits you best, but you’ll also save money in the long run. The cost of renting a helmet can quickly add up if you go for a week or more.

Some people also might feel weird about using a helmet that someone else has worn because of sweat or germs. While rental helmets get cleaned and disinfected after use, it still might gross some people out.

Rental Helmet Costs

Rental helmets can cost anywhere from $5 to $25, depending on where you rent them from. Most resorts I’ve seen charge $10 to $25, but you can sometimes find a very cheap one if you go to a local rental shop away from the resort.

You need to know that helmets typically aren’t included in the cost of a standard ski rental. You’ll pay extra on top of the total cost for renting boots, skis, boots, and poles. It’s not a huge added cost, but it’s still good to be aware of.

This cost might not seem very significant, but consider that the prices are figured by the day. If you rent a helmet for five days at $20, that’s $100. You can easily buy your own helmet for that much. It’s just something to keep in mind.

Final Thoughts

Every skier should own a helmet. Even if you only go out a few times a year, the cost of renting one will quickly add up. You’ll spend more money by renting than you will be buying a brand new helmet in the long run. It’s a good investment.

If you forget your helmet or the one you are using gets damaged, renting can be a good way to stay safe and enjoy your time in the snow. Just remember that you want to get a helmet that fits properly for the best protection and comfort.
