3 Best GoPro Mounts for Skiing

There is no better way to capture an awesome ski run than with a GoPro. The compact cameras are known for their ability to record extreme sports, and they shoot stunning videos out on the mountain.

However, as great as the cameras are, they do not always stand on their own. If you want to record your time in the powder, you’re going to need a strong mount.

This buying guide covers the best GoPro ski mounts on the market and then breaks down the qualities that separate them from the pack.

Who Should Get This

Anyone who loves recording while skiing should invest in a good GoPro mount. While the cameras are of the utmost quality, keeping them steady is not always easy.

The following models are also great for skiers just starting out in the photography world. Even if you don’t have direct camera experience, GoPros are so easy to use that anyone can take advantage of their fun features.

The mounts make starting out even easier, and allow you to capture every angle without worrying about more advanced techniques.

How to Chose a GoPro Mount for Skiing

Not sure how to narrow down the choices from the crowd? Take the factors below into account during your GoPro mount research journey.

Stability

Nothing’s worse than thinking you’ve taken an awesome video of your run or outdoor adventure only to discover that your footage is ruined because your camera shook the entire time.

Skiing is a fun sport, but it comes with a lot of bumps, spills, and turns. A strong, well-made mount will cut down on those issues and ensure your GoPro stays in place no matter what trail you decide to tackle.

Adhesion

Do some research and you’ll find that early ski camera mounts had a big problem; they couldn’t stay on. While technology has come a long way since that time, some mounts still can’t handle tough mountain terrain.

Strive to find models with premium adhesion or strong clips that ensure the mount will stay on regardless of what trials you put it through. Just because something works on a clear day doesn’t mean it will hold up when the weather gets rough.

Durability

GoPros are premium products made with quality construction. Your mount should match that standard. No matter how often or intensely you ski, your mount will take a beating from the wind, ice, rain, and snow.

Only purchase ones made with high-quality materials and try to buy from trusted brands. A faulty mount, or one that breaks down after a few trips, will do you no good. You need something that will keep going year after year.

Useful Tips and Information

A mount is an extremely useful tool for stability, but it doesn’t do much in terms of the actual filming process. If you want more information on how to better shoot ski videos with a GoPro, check out the tips here, or consult this handy guide by REI.

Final Words

When picking out a GoPro, don’t forget the mount. Being able to hold the camera steady as you zip through fresh powder is a fantastic way to ensure your shots come out exactly as planned.

There are many GoPro mounts out there, but the three above options are the best in terms of price, stability, durability, and adhesion. All three will give you great results. The one you pick depends on what you want to get out of your camera.

The chest mount does indeed do everything you say. However, (lesson learned the hard way) users should be aware that if you fall forward while wearing the camera, it can cause injury to ribs or sternum.

      Hi Frank,

Yeah, wearing any sort of mount or other equipment that sticks out and away from your body always increases the risk of potential injury. Good note about this with the chest mount. Skiing can always be a bit dangerous, so caution is key.
