3 Ski Resorts in the US That Don’t Allow Snowboarders

Believe it or not, a few ski resorts in the US still don’t allow snowboarders. This once was somewhat common, but it’s pretty rare these days, so it’s good to know where these resorts are whether you want the slopes to yourself or are just curious.

My name is Christine, and I’ve been skiing most of my life. I get out in the snow as often as possible during the winter months and love everything about the sport. I’ve skied in many places, including some of the resorts mentioned here.

This post will highlight a few ski resorts in the US that don’t allow snowboarders. I’ll give you some background on each location and tell you why you might want to visit.

Let’s dive in.

1. Alta

Alta is a great ski resort in Utah, but it doesn’t allow snowboarders. This is an extremely fun location to visit, and it offers a lot of great snow and terrain for skiers of all ability levels to explore. I’ve had some truly epic days at Alta.

Alta is a ski resort that has never allowed snowboarding. It’s one of three that still have this policy, and even though it’s a little weird, that’s just the way it is. The resort doesn’t really give a reason why snowboarders aren’t allowed.

But regardless of the reason, there is plenty of amazing skiing to be found here. Alta has six lifts that give you access to 118 trails, and most of the terrain is incredible. You will never forget if you are lucky enough to visit Alta on a powder day.

Alta isn’t the largest resort in the area, but it’s undoubtedly one of the best for skiers. It’s a gorgeous location, and the chances for good snow are very high during the height of the winter season.

2. Deer Valley

Deer Valley is another ski resort in Utah that doesn’t allow snowboarders. This is the largest resort that is skiing-only, and it’s a great location to visit if you want to explore a lot of different terrain with the chance for good snow.

In addition to its no-snowboarders rule, Deer Valley limits the number of skiers allowed onto the slopes daily. This helps keep the crowds down, so you are sure to spend less time waiting in line and more time actually skiing.

Deer Valley also has many world-class amenities to take advantage of. Whether you want to stay at highly comfortable lodging or find amazing meals, the resort and surrounding area has a little bit of everything.

The resort offers a wide variety of runs for skiers of all ability levels. It’s a good place for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers to explore and makes a solid family skiing vacation destination.

3. Mad River Glen

The last ski resort in the US that doesn’t allow snowboarders is Mad River Glen. This resort is in Vermont, which is one of the top skiing destinations on the East Coast. It’s another very scenic location and can be a lot of fun to ski.

Mad River Glen averages around 250 inches of snow every season, which is good for out East. This gives you access to a lot of terrains and keeps most of the trails open all season long.

The resort offers some great terrain for experienced skiers, with challenging runs all over the resort. It has some of the steepest runs in the East, which makes it a favorite for skiers looking to push their limits.

But the resort also offers plenty of intermediate and beginner terrain, making it a solid option for skiers of any ability level. It’s not as large as some of the resorts in the western US, but you still have plenty of room to spread out.
